Hello Everyone,
My name is Mary Lou. I have two addicted daughters, one 27 who is in prison until August 25, her 28th birthday; the other 18, 5 months sober and in drug court which when successfully completed will clear her record of domestic violence charges. This is part of our juvenile court system. My ex-son-in-law is also an addict who is in prison. With any luck, he will choose not to be a part of my grandchildren's lives when he comes out. (Hi is the father of two of one of my non-addict daughter's children). He has not tried to contact them in over a year! 😀
My husband and I have been married for 28 years. We have 2 biological children and 5 adopted. We adopted the 27 year old when she was 17 and she came to live with us when she was nearly 16. My 18 year old has been with us from the time she was 4 months old.
Our family situation is very complex and some is not very pretty. We are healing and coming back together as a family a little at a time. I am a better person now than I was a year ago. I have learned a lot about addiction, enabling and co-dependency over the past 9 months. My 18 year old has been in an intense recovery program which includes family session, family empowerment and a great team of experts who have helped my daughter regain her self esteem and maintain sobriety! Just for today, she is stronger and happier than she has been in a very long time! I try to remember daily to entrust my family to my HP which I call God. This has helped me greatly…remembering that I cannot change or control anyone!
Thank you all for being so welcoming!
Mary Lou
