Hello, My name is Dona-Lea and I am the mother of an active addict son. although I am new to Nar-Anon, I have an extensive background in Alateen and AlAnon. My father is a recovered alcoholic for 47 years, very active in AA and my mother is very active in Al-Anon. My first husband was a marijuana/hash addict. I had received some help from AADAC at the time, mid 1980's, but they really didnt know what to do with me, after all it is only dope, right? WRONG. The experiences of dealing with a addicted son surpasses the knowledge, coping tools and life skills I received from Al-Anon. Im looking for support and insight and to help others who are dealing with this terrifying and baffling disease. Thank you
Hi Dona-lea. My name is Pam. My my husband is also marijuana addict currently sober and we are dealing with our 25 year old son who lives with us. He is also a marijuana addict. We are considering options for treatment and a plan to get him out on his own. Iâm new to this board. How old is your son?
Hi Dona-Lea. Welcome to Naranon Chat! I can totally understand what you are saying. When I first became aware of my husband's addiction, my family members brought me to an al-anon meeting. They were trying to be helpful and didn't know that there was naranon. Throughout that meeting, I couldn't help but feel like the extent of my husband's addiction was much greater and that no one there truly could understand where I was at. I found that people here were more on the same page. I have learned so much and have found this room to be a sanctuary. I encourage you to get involved in the online meetings and free chat time.
Hi, Dona-Lea. I too am new to Naranon chat. My son is also an active addict who had found sobriety for 1.5 years, but has tried detoxing 3 times and only lasting at most 20 days each since January 2018. This last time (approx. 10 days ago) I was openly angry and said things I never do. Anyway, this pain and hurt has brought me to a place of knowing I have to find help for me. I knew all about Nar-Anon but didn't feel I really need to work a program bc I don't have a problem, he does. Anyway, I have spent these past 10 days looking up everything I could find on the topic of co-dependency, enabling, helping the addict during a relapse, listening to YouTube videos from Nar-Anon speakers, drug addiction counselors. My gosh, hours! What have I walked away with? I do have a problem and I must work a program if there is any hope for me to survive this family disease. Keep coming back. here, and there is an online chat meetings on Monday and Thursday 9:00 EST and 8:30 Saturday. Keep reaching out. There is help out there.
