Well… Iâm going to qualify… my daughter is an addict..
she has been since age 14-15?… sheâs 31 now
… She always had a problem with alcohol
Quit drinking but discovered opiates… 3 years ago she stopped opiates but started using meth
… things declined rapidly… she gave her 3 children to my sister with a promise of recovery
… three years have passed
… a week ago she showed up in my city
( also where her kids are)
… she says she has not used since April 16…
… I said she could stay in my home as long as she attends meetings
… 90 days 90 meetings
… some times itâs been a fight to get her out the door to a meeting
… I am also attending meetings
Nar-Anon and Alanon
… she refuses rehab or withdrawl management
… she is sick
… paranoid, agitated combative and not pleasant to be around
IM not new to addiction … my father died homeless 12 years ago
… my step father ODd on morphine 5 years ago
I have attended a lot of alanon meetings while my father was alive
… I guess Iâm gonna keep coming back
I am sorry to hear about your loved ones and the world of addiction that they bring to your doorstep. Love the addict, hate the addiction is my mantra. The thing I found most helpful and comforting stems from the direction of "keep coming back." This is truly important regardless of an addicts current status. By coming back, we continue to grow and learn about addiction, relationships, and OURSELVES!!! I hope you take the time to get involve in our online meetings and free chat time. I am truly grateful for the people on this site. They help keep me sane.
