I think something you may learn is there is two schools of thought. One that an addict makes a choice. They chose the drug over other things in life. Therefore, they can chose to stop. The other school of thought is that addiction is a disease of the brain. So they don't have a choice. The addiction drives their decisions. In this school of though, the addict needs treatment like any other disease. They need medical care and a lot of times mental health care to help stop the drug use. Do some reading and research and see which school of though you believe in.
