Hello all,
My mom has had substance abuse issues for as long as I can remember, especially related to prescription drug abuse. She has made some improvements in the past year and I am proud of her for what she has accomplished, but I still struggle to maintain a positive relationship with her. When she relapses it is hard not to get angry and severely disappointed. She wants us to have the perfect mother/daughter relationship and although I am trying to take actions to improve our relationship and be there for her (I would like to have a healthy relationship with her too), I know that it will never be what she wants it to be. I am hoping that I can figure out how to have a positive relationship with her, it is just discouraging and draining when you are constantly taking one step forward and two steps back.
Thank you for listening! I am so glad that I found a place where I can talk to others who can relate with my experiences, it is truly helpful.
