I hope this post is allowed and I apologize, if not. i am a mother trying all I can do to support my young son through recovery. He is currently in a drug addiction rehab. Once he has completed treatment, unless I help him find a sober living/halfway house/safe place prior to his completion/release, he will be homeless. Every resource I have turned to has not been able to assist me in finding a place for him. The rehab cent says he is on his own and has to figure something out himself. I need to find some sort of resource for financial assistance/grants/ free housing for young homeless adults until they find jobs and pay for housing. Does anyone have any suggestions??? Thank you in advance for taking the time to read my post and any suggestions/comments you may leave, would be greatly appreciated.

hello ! I am just reading this – have been in the same situation with my son several times. The services for people in this situation are just abysmal….. It depends on where you live, what is available. Most of the time they are put in homeless shelters where they fall back into addiction quickly. I hate to say it, but we have helped our son with rent to be in a decent apartment while he gets on his feet. He has relapsed over and over again, even after time in prison, but I don't think us helping him with housing is what caused that to occur. I think it's the addiction, and without his full commitment it was bound to happen anyway. But we just couldn't watch him stuck any longer in bed-bug infested places. It's just a terrible situation. I hope that your son is doing ok now….. Please know that you are not alone in this. Our country is finally realizing the scope of the problem and trying to throw money at it, but it will take awhile for the systems to be in place to begin to deal with the scope of need…..

I know the situation and mess of feelings where you are right now. I wrote the paragraph under [Permission to view this media is denied]
. I've put my life on hold for over a year now hoping in this or that. .. it works for some and for many sadly, not. If your son will talk or even just connect some maybe over coffee in a neutral setting that is a start. There is a book called Beyond the Yellow Brick Road, that would give you some understanding, and especially of the type of rehab that is known to work best.

I see where this was over two years ago. I am just going through this now with my 20 yr old son and was wondering where at what you found out for him to go too?
